Toxic Dating Habits You Need to Break This Year
Do you keep dating guys who hurt you over and over again? Do your relationships never seem to end well? If the answer to these questions is yes, it may be time to take a look at the toxic trends in your dating life.
Bad dating habits that may be stopping you finding love
The annoying thing about toxic relationship habits is that they can be sneaky, creeping up on you whilst you’re not paying attention. There’s even a chance that you may be exhibiting certain toxic habits and not even realize it. Whilst this can be alarming, recognizing these behaviors is the first step to eliminating them from your dating life for good. Here’s what makes a relationship toxic.
Thinking you have just one “type”
Many women think there’s just one type of person that they’re attracted to. In fact, this is rarely the case and leads to them dismissing a huge number of guys who could be perfect for them. If you know that you do this, it’s time to stop. Try dating someone who you think isn’t your type every now and then. You might think you have a type, but it hasn’t been working for you so far, otherwise, you wouldn’t be single. Try dating different types of guys – you just might surprise yourself.
Dating guys who are unavailable
Whilst some men are obviously unavailable, such as those who are married or dislike commitment, with others it’s less obvious. They may have never had a proper relationship, or they’re away a lot on business. In both cases, dating them can be toxic, particularly if you make a habit out of dating guys in these situations. You might think that you can change a man who’s always unavailable, but that’s unlikely to be the case, and you may end up constantly waiting for a big grand gesture that will never come.
Trying too hard to impress
This is one of the most common toxic relationship habits. It happens when you’re dating a guy and you really want to impress him. The problem is, when you try to impress him, you reveal a totally different version of yourself. A date is an opportunity for him to find out about you, and vice versa, and working out if you’re a good fit. But this won’t happen if you’re being someone you’re not. The solution? Try not to worry too much about impressing the guy you’re dating. Relax and be yourself, and hopefully, he will like you just as you are.
In the words of the philosopher Wayne Dyer, “Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at will change”. Never has this been truer than when it comes to dating and relationships. If things aren’t working about in your love life, it’s time to take a closer look at certain bad dating habits that you’ve adopted over the years. If you have the strength to break them and live a healthier and positive dating life, you stand a better chance of finding love with Mr. Right.
